Federal Human Rights Act: “all individuals
should have an opportunity equal to other individuals to make for themselves
the lives that they are able and wish to have and to have their
needs accommodated consistent with their duties and obligations
as members of society, without being hindered in or presented from
doing so by discriminatory practices.”
Occupational Health and Safety Act: To be seen
as “Competent” workplace
Supervisors and Managers must know the following under section 25 of
the Act:
- How to identify hazards in the workplace
- How to address work refusals
- The concept of due diligence
- How to conduct accident investigations
Employment Equity Act: this ensures that federally
regulated employers provide equal opportunities for employment to the
four designated groups: Women, Aboriginal Peoples, Persons with Disabilities
and members of Visible Minorities. Under this Act, the Canadian Human
Rights Commission is responsible for ensuring compliance and conducts
audits to determine whether employers meet the statutory requirements
of the Act
